Wool That Lasts for Generations

Wool has been a part of Norwegian culture for centuries. Wool is known for its warmth, durability, and sustainability. With Norwegian wool, supplied by Norilia and Fatland, Devold produces sweaters designed to last. Through its slogan “Made for generations”, Devold highlights wool as a natural, technical fiber, and the importance of choosing long-lasting, high-quality products.

Natural and Sustainable Raw Material

Wool is a 100 % natural, renewable, and biodegradable fiber that grows naturally on sheep. Just like human hair, a sheep’s fleece regrows every year. Did you know that wool can actually be considered a carbon storage material? In fact, carbon makes up 50 % of its weight. Plants absorb carbon from the air and convert it into organic carbon, which is then transferred to meat and wool when eaten by sheep.

When wool arrives at Norilia, it is assessed and classified by experienced wool graders and sorted into different quality categories. Washed wool from Norilia carries the official Nordic Swan Ecolabel, a recognition of meeting strict quality, environmental and health criteria.

Wool for Durability and Quality

Devold was founded over 170 years ago and has a long tradition of quality knitting. They use Norwegian wool to produce Devold Originals - warm, traditional sweaters featuring patterns from Devold’s archives. These sweaters were originally made for fishers and workers facing the harsh coastal climate of Norway. It’s no surprise that many of these patterns are named Nansen, Nordsjø, Svalbard, and Islender.

One of Devold’s ambassadors is influencer Jørgine “Funkygine” Vasstrand. Born and raised in the same region as Devold, she has grown up wearing Devold wool. Funkygine and her family have shared their experiences with wool sweaters that have been passed down and become part of their daily lives. Thanks to their high quality and timeless design, these sweaters can continue to be worn for generations.

The Future is Circular

Norilia and Devold share a vision for a more circular and sustainable textile industry. Norilia ensures that no resources go to waste and that all wool is preserved and used in the best possible way. This collaboration with Devold demonstrates that quality products are not just about fashion but about animal welfare, preserving resources and investing in garments that last.

A wool sweater is more than just clothing – it’s a legacy for future generations.
